Researchers and postgraduate students from Tshwane University of Technology, Pretoria, South Africa, completed a Data Analytics course from Umetrics Suite.

Staff and students sharpen data analysis skills

Researchers and postgraduate students from the Departments of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Environmental, Water & Earth Sciences and Chemistry completed an intense training course in multivariate data analysis. The course was presented by Dr Claire Gavaghan, application specialist from the Swedish-based company, Umetrics (now Sartorius-Stedim Data Analytics).

The purpose of the course was to equip researchers with the skills to explore their data and to extract as much information as possible from complex datasets. During the course, students had an opportunity to work on their very own datasets.

“The field of multivariate data analysis is an exciting area which allows researchers to investigate trends and patterns in data. The skills acquired in the past week will allow students and staff to publish their work in the very best journals using the most advanced methods in data processing. Researchers have gained experience to discuss and present their results with greater conviction and to optimize their research design and data analysis workflow,” says Prof Alvaro.

The participants greatly acknowledge the Directorate for Research and Innovation which provided funding to arrange the workshop.
